Healthy Chinese Food I really enjoyed this book as I am always looking for new and healthy recipes. Chinese medicine is not something you hear much about. The principles of Chinese Medicine do make alot of sense. The author's credentials and expertise are very impressive. It was great to learn more about yin and yang, the related foods, and the importance of achieving balance. The author did an excellent job of explaining the elements, flavors, and the seasons. I learned a great deal while reading this book. Of course, there's so much I won't remember and need to go back and read again. I'm happy to have this book as a reference. The constitution profiles in the back of the book are very helpful in determining the yin or yang deficiency. It's very helpful to have the recipes divided into seasons to help one follow a plan more easily. Information about other dietary concepts such as gluten free, grain free, nut free, and vegetarian are extremely helpful. The format of the recipes is very easy to follow and I like that the ingredients are a different color than the procedure. There are great tips after each recipe as well as information on the health benefits. I also enjoyed reading the authors comments about her feelings about the recipe. They are very encouraging. While some ingredients may be hard to find in the regular grocery store, the author does provide information in the back of the book on where to find them.Although not all of the recipes are appealing to me due to my food preferences, there are several I will try. I would have liked to have seen more nutrition information such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat. I would have also liked to have seen more pictures what the prepared food should look like.I am very happy to provide this review in return for a copy of the book from the publisher. I thoroughly read and enjoyed the book.Novel and Delicious Prior to picking up this book I had never heard of "Chinese medicine food." I literally did not know what to expect. Thankfully, the entire first part of this book is dedicated to basic concepts of Chinese medicine food therapy, the five elements and flavors, eating with the seasons, and other crucial principals. Once I knew more about what Chinese medicine food was, I got more jazzed about trying it out. Part two contains all the recipes and is broken into seasons. Since we're in summer I've only played around with those recipes, although I've looked ahead to other seasons and can't wait to try out more! Some recipes I've attempted include: vegan Caesar salad, egg drop soup with seaweed and mushroom, and salt and pepper roasted green beans. My only beef with the book is that there aren't a ton of pictures and the there is a lot of meat and fish recipes. Don't get me wrong, there are vegan and vegetarian recipes (which many cookbooks don't have), I'm just biased. I don't know how much I believe in all the concepts (eating certain things in certain seasons), but I do know that there are some tasty recipes!
